Modern, highly efficient turbomachinery is extremly sensitive to very small, sub micron particulates.
These particules can adhere to airfoil surfaces and change the shape and smoothness with adverse consequences for air flow, pressure ration, output power and fuel consumption. Operators want to be able to run their machinery for longer periods without need of frequent stops for compressor waterwashes. Effective capture of small particles is therefore of vital importance for long and efficient operation. A properly designed filter system gives the operator:
Reliability - the engine is protected from risk of damages from erosion and fouling.
Availibility - high filtration efficiency reduces the frequency of shutdowns for water washing. High filtration efficiency also eliminates the need for online water washing.
Economy - high filtration efficeincy results in less fouling and less degradation. Large filter area gives low pressure drop and high power output. It also increases thr dust holding capacity for longer filter life and maintain stable pressure loss even in high humidity conditions.
Also scheduled maintenance is always better than unscheduled repair. This means preventive maintenance, early detection and elimination of wear-related defects - before they become a problem.
