Gas turbines and other rotating machinery need attention, care and the right conditions to meet our requirements. A reliable and profitable investment is directly linked to a good engine protection.
The machines need to be protected from erosion and fouling. Erosion from large and heavy particles results in rapid wear of components in engine airpath - often ending up in major damages. Fouling is a result of small particles and aerosols entering the engine forming deposits on blades and guide vanes. When the idealy shaped blade profile is changed, the engine can’t perform at its best and looses efficiency as degradation accelerates.
This means that the need for clean particle free air increases. There is also a request for operating the machinery for longer periodes without need for frequent and costly stops for waterwash. Requirements of operation periods up to one year and above become more and more common.
All this has a direct impact on the design and selection of the air inlet system. We recommend to protect engines with higher grades of high efficiency filters and more often even up to absolute or HEPA level. New more sophisticated materials are coming in use and designs are constantly tuned to provide optimal engine protection.
