Sleepyhead sleeps easy

Polyurethane foam manufacturing involves toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) – a chemical that can be hazardous to humans and the wider environment even in very small amounts.

To protect process operators, near neighbours and the external environment, it is good practice to enclose the foam process, provide extract ventilation and filter the exhaust stream to remove all traces of TDI prior to release to atmosphere.

In Auckland, New Zealand, Sleepyhead – a leader in bed manufacturing and bedding technology for more than 60 years – decided to introduce polyurethane foam manufacturing at its new factory complex, one of the biggest and most technically advanced in Australasia.

After visiting one of our reference installations in the U.K., Sleepyhead requested Camfil Farr to design and install a TDI filter for the Auckland foam facility. The filter is now removing the TDI and compliance has been assured with all regulations.

Now everyone can sleep easy in their beds at night. This installation is one of many that Camfil Farr has provided to foam producers around the world.
